I believe in theatre as a unique space for youth to practice freedom of expression, self-discovery, community-building, and radical imagination.
AUGUSTA AND NOBLE
by Carlos Murillo - directed by Lisa Portes - The Theatre School at DePaul University - September 2017
Meet young Gabi Castillo from West Town Chicago. Gabi ventures across town to attend Northside College Prep where she encounters new cultures, classmates, and opportunities. Through a class project Gabi delves into the mystery behind her family’s migration from Mexico to the United States. Join us for this tale of courage and self-discovery told through dreams of both future and past.
As one of the assistant dramaturgs to Hannah Greenspan, I was responsible for creating the study guide for Chicago Public Schools teachers and students to enhance their experience of the show with activities, readings, and discussion starters.
TEACHING ARTIST EXPERIENCE
Raven Theatre’s Take Flight program has been my artistic home as a teaching artist in Chicago. Their chanted mission is something I hold near and dear to my heart:
“WITH COURAGE, I WILL CONNECT + COLLABORATE + CREATE IN MY COMMUNITY”
